the deercember devlog
hello! here's another one of those posts where we talk about what we've been up to with the project.
gonna start off by saying this is i think the 3rd anniversary of the veadotube project??? we started it in early december 2020, so yeah that's 3 whole years working on this. whew! happy birthday, tube! (and sorry for the massive delays! 3 years is a lot!!)
how's progress in the new engine?
the node system has been ported! meaning that p much every input that mini relies on is implemented, including audio and hotkeys. both implementations are based on the previous work i had in Unity post mini 1.4, which means they still got all the fancy stuff like noise filters that i mentioned in the first devlog.
the node system still lacks webcam support, and that's because we're focusing a bit more on getting mini going before the other versions (and also i relied on Unity's webcam system and i don't wanna look into doing that manually right now AHSDHA), but it's essentially the same node system we had before the port began. love copying and pasting stuff around.
this is p much all we needed to start working on mini 1.5 again! other than the rest of the UI system, of course, but we can figure this one out as we go so it's not much of an issue. we'll still be taking a little break for the end of the year but we're also still on track for late january lab stuff yipee <3
(embarrassingly we still don't have cool screenshots from the engine to show </3 so you guys are gonna have to put up with this wall of text sorryyyy)
also another fun update for the engine: Casco has been ported to Linux! p much everything works on it, except for a few plugins that we're still figuring out. it should also do a better job with keyboard & mouse hotkeys without having to run the whole app as root, so that issue should go away. capture transparency on OBS should also work now! there's still a lot to test however, especially in different environments -- i'm personally an Arch + XFCE user and i have no idea how this runs under Ubuntu for example. this is what the lab will be for, though :]
so labs in late january still real?
YES! it should still start off with a beta version of mini 1.5, which will continue having most of the feature list it had back in june (better ui, better systems, voice filters, stream deck support), so we're still on track with most of what we promised back when we announced it but now it's also got a whole new engine! yay!
we'll be going through the google form that you guys filled these past few months -- thanks btw! we never expected that many people wanting to join in. also because of that of course we won't be letting literally everyone in, we'll prioritise based on platform, usage, and whatever else feels right for us. i probably already said that somewhere else but YEAH you get it
and how are you guys doing?
good! however still financially bad! we're still dealing with debt, and health issues that became money issues, and also classic landlord moments... you know how it is.
so, inevitably, the ko-fi membership is still happening! it'll be a separate thing from the lab, instead being a more personal thing. as in, you get exclusive access to the things i'm working on at the time! so yeah awfully similar to the old patreon, except that now i'm a lot mentally healthier to tackle this. this means that if you don't wanna wait in line for veadotube labs, this will be another opportunity to grab some early builds :]
i'm still not decided on whether to use Discord integration with this one, but if i do, it'll actually be over a new server we created recently: the Sindigatas server! this is the olmewe + Bella! + NatSara combo, aka the main veadotube devs plus Nat who also makes streaming toys, aka hey this might interest you guys!
Nat in particular has recently made a little thing called Stream Mons, which is a Twitch-integrated game where the chat can catch mons and battle each other and whatnot! and like veado mini, it's a name-your-price app, so do consider checking it out.
so yeah! the membership should launch together with the lab, which means it's still a month away from now. in the meanwhile we still gotta survive somehow, so here are some other ways you can support us:
- Nat's still taking commissions with a good variety of stuff including PNGTuber props and custom interactive Tamagotchis.
- Bella now has an online store page with cool digital goods and also character design commissions!
- Bella and Nat are still taking those cool flipnote-styled collab commissions!
- i'm busy with veado so all i got once again is my ko-fi page where you don't get anything in return for now <3
anyway thank you for putting up with our e-begging and the delays and everything. and happy birthday to the tube! and happy holidays too! 🇵🇸💜
