how's the full version going?
veadotube the full has been our main focus for a while! right now we're working on the dynamic avatar editor -- if you were a past member of the old veadotube patreon (late 2021 to early 2022), you might find the new editor familiar :]
how does the dynamic avatar editor work?
the workflow is simple: you import images as layers, which can also be grouped for masking/clipping effects. said layers can have dynamics, which make things more interesting:
- Translate, Rotate, Skew, and Scale dynamics, when added to a layer, will expose a node in the node editor. if you connect, say, the Cursor node to a Translate dynamics node, it'll make the layer move according to the movement of your cursor on screen!
- Attach dynamics let the user control to which other layer it'll be attached, according to a pivot. it comes with smoothing options as well, so layers can slowly follow other layers.
- Spring dynamics add some reaction to movement (either from nodes or from being attached to another layer), with acceleration, damping, all that. said reaction can be applied to the rotation or scale or both!
with these three it should be enough to create pretty dynamic stuff! using the node system, you're able to control layers not only through user input (keyboard, mouse, midi, etc) but also automate animations, so noise and wave animations can be applied to layers as well.
dynamic avatars can also have multiple custom state machines, of course! just like we added state groups in the scene editor, these are also available when creating avatars, and you can control the current state through nodes as well. for photoshop users, this is similar to doing animation frames by toggling/moving layers, with the difference that you can have multiple timelines.
speaking of nodes, we'll be expanding the node system soon, to make it easier to create complex avatars:
- we're working on more state nodes, aka things that make it easier to control state machines. right now early access users have been doing this through insane workarounds and sending me screenshots of that, which is honestly the best way to request a feature from me, because looking at those makes me worry about your well beings. better nodes will come i promise.
- we're also expanding on non-input, animation nodes as mentioned before! so you should have access to random noise and other RNG stuff that can help you toggle random states for your avatar, as well as easier ways to manipulate numbers without actively worrying about the maths.
- image detection nodes should come soon as well! we're working on some backend stuff to support face tracking so that for example facial position data can be connected to Translate dynamics and thus make layers move according to your own body movement. cool!
lots of stuff! we still don't have screenshots as the UI side of things is still lacking, but the plan is to continue working on this throughout this month and hopefully release a new build soon.
Bella and i will be working on some avatars together to ensure the workflow feels good, which means that soon-ish we will have an Adult Tube the Deer avatar reveal?? who knows.
and how's the scene editor doing?
we're expanding avatar support! support for dynamic avatars is coming along as we work on the avatar editor itself. we're working on letting the user who's creating the avatar expose some nodes to the other user who's using it in the scene editor.
this, for example, lets the end user decide if a premade avatar they got from someone else is going to be used with webcam tracking or mouse tracking, as well as customise their own hotkeys for state changes and so on, all without having to go through the avatar editor :]
on the topic of avatar support, we recently added support for importing .save files from PNGTuber Plus:
it's not 1:1, it will look a bit different from how it animates in the original program! but it should help you get started with veadotube if you're coming from PNG+.
i was gonna make the collab image joke here but i'm too lazy to open up an image editor to make it so pretend there's a huge image in here with the veadotube logo and PNGTuber Plus logo together with an X between the two.

can i already do all that stuff you're talking about?
partially! PNG+ avatar support is already available, and you can download the current build on the ko-fi early access as well as through the tríplice tier on the Sindigatas patreon.
we're expecting to release the dynamic avatar editor hopefully later this month! it's a lot of work, and we're a bit busy with other life stuff right now, so it will take some time to be ready.
whenever we release the dynamic avatar editor, we'll be (finally!) going through the veadotube labs interest form again, to account for users interested in avatar creation rather than usage. so if you're looking to help test this thing with us without having to spend money on it, get your name on the list!
(it's the same form we posted here back in 2023, so if you know you filled it already, and your contact info hasn't changed, there's no need to fill it again!)
what about other veado stuff?
mini got the 2.1b update recently! we're still working on some other bugfixes although it's not our priority right now. hope mini's been treating you guys well.
what else... ah we're working on the website update! the home page will look prettier and the help page will be a lot more organised and full of screenshots and stuff. right now it lacks content -- we're gonna write a lot of new tutorials.
we're also gonna add a proper preview for the full version in the home page, showcasing avatar creation and all that, which means the website update should drop together with the Adult Tube the Deer update. fun!
any life updates?
been busy! the contract job will be back soon, so veado updates might slow down a bit. still we're really close to getting all the base features ready, so i'm not too worried about delaying things! everything is coming at the right time.
Bella's still taking commissions, including pngtuber ones, so once again if you like Tube and the gang and you want an avatar like that for yourself, do look into their stuff :]
