a january devlog???
hi! we're working on veadotube and this is yet another monthly devlog in which we talk about that i think.
how's mini 1.5?
ok so, fun news, this is actually gonna be veadotube mini 2.0 -- we realised things have changed enough that the new version deserves a whole new major number. such things include the engine switch, the new features, the new UI, the new backend systems, so on!
a month ago we posted about how this new version of mini was ready to be made since p much every underlying system that it depended on had been ported. so we had an entire month to breathe a little bit and then work on the UI redesign. introducing the very first actual screenshot of mini 2.0 in which everything can still be temporary:
new icons! images have been vectorised! new state editing menus! and oh shit we forgot about the app credits in the corner. ok ignore that screenshot.
mini 2.0 is still mainly a quality-of-life update -- the main goal was still to Make Things Work Better, especially stuff like spout and the microphone system. still, there are lots of new little things that we managed to fit in now that we redesigned the UI, including but not limited to:
- state renaming and reordering!
- composite hotkeys!
- custom blink timing!
- custom background colours!
- window renaming!
- new avatar animations!
- pixel-perfect options!
of course, we're still limiting mini to be a simple app. 4 images per state maximum, no image overlaying, no screaming slider or whatever. the base app is still the same, otherwise it wouldn't be called mini. i think i've said that last sentence a lot these past few years! but it really sums up what mini is supposed to be.
oh! in the meanwhile we also ported casco the engine to macOS! most of it, i think. this might be good news for mac users, since Apple decided to (accidentally?) break Unity support on Sonoma 14.2, and Silicon users are having issues, uh, clicking on things? so at least we have a non-Unity version of veado coming to you guys as well!
what else... oh, Bella is back, and working on art stuff! on top of the UI redesigns we'll also have cool new default avatars coming, as well as stuff not directly related to mini :]
so when do we get to use this new version?
hopefully soon! this current version is reaching beta probably this week so this is finally when we start getting people into the lab, little by little. we're not sure what the timeframe for the beta testing will be, it'll really depend on how things will perform. this will be the first time casco runs on a computer other than the ones we have at home. anything can happen!!
you'll also have the option to play with the beta builds through the ko-fi membership thing we had planned! we'll be launching it on the 1st of february so do keep an eye on that. we'll make another post when the time comes >:]
any other plans?
glad you asked! this 26th is actually veadotube mini's birthday, it'll be 3 years since we released the very first version which had nothing but 1 slider and 2 buttons. things have changed since then!
we're gonna be celebrating it through the veado discord server (which you can find the invite link on our website)! we're gonna be playing games and i think we might also have a few surprises for the day. oh and we're also planning on moving things around the server and making it more organised! did you know discord has actual forums now? yeah it's wild.
oh, and if you're not a discord user and/or any of the above worries you, do know that the website will continue being updated with troubleshooting info and whatnot. don't worry, we're not locking information away HASDHA in fact we probably gotta update the website like heavily in the next few weeks, with new tutorials for 2.0 and whatnot!
and how are you guys doing?
a little better??? we're still facing some financial issues but thanks to your donations we got over some of the worst ones so like. yeah ASHDFA thank you so much for that. we're hoping that the ko-fi membership will save our asses long-term but for now we can at least breathe a little :]
so no e-begging this time. although hmm you should maybe look at the adopts Bella is doing hehe but that's it ok done.
genuinely thanks for all the support. we hope you enjoy this new version of mini whenever it comes to you! be it through the lab, through ko-fi, or through the final release! mwa
