the march devlogue
hello! welcome to march. i actually forgot to do this yesterday bc i always forget february is shorter than the other months. oh well
how are things?
we're wrapping up development on mini 2.0! we're hoping to launch it to the public in a month or so, depending on how things go during the next few weeks. this means the website should see an update soon as well, with new guides and all that!
we're also already (re)starting development on the full version soon! we're taking what we learned during the old patreon phase, and sketching a lot of new UI stuff :] as stated before, we're focusing on the smooth transition between mini and the full version this time around, so before any new fancy avatar editors we're focusing on importing mini avatars to the full version and adding support for props, multiple avatars on screen, group calls on discord, etc. we'll talk more about this when the time comes!
and just so that this doesn't go unmentioned, we've been looking into the idea of porting casco the engine to android. this is still not a priority since we gotta first get things to work best on the platforms we already support (more on m-series mac support below), but hey there's your yearly veado mobile update!
and how's mini 2.0, specifically?
we happened to add a bunch of new features this month, such as:
- support for background images
- support for repositioning and scaling your avatar inside the app
- language support! there's english and portuguese, soon there'll be spanish too
- support for a lot of command line arguments, like for custom save folders and starting the app with the UI hidden and all that
we also rewrote the entire microphone system on windows for like the 5th time, and so far it seems that every remaining microphone issue has finally vanished! let's hope it continues that way. idk why microphones are so hard to get right.
i think the only thing that's not going so well right now is m-series mac support... it seems that running the app through rosetta is messy and we can only blame apple for it. on intel macs however things are going pretty ok, so there's that at least! we plan on getting a newer mac to keep up with mac development and have an official silicon version of the app (relevant as apple is fading out intel support), but that shit's expensive and we're just getting out of debt. so if you wanna help us with that you can always support the ko-fi i guess ASDFHA
anyway. here's a newer screenshot, as a treat:
how do we get access to it again?
if you cannot wait to play with mini 2.0, you can support the olmewe early access, where you get access to the current development builds on windows (x64), mac (intel) and linux :]
the lab is still a thing too! we just haven't had time to go through the latest form entries, but we're gonna get to it soon because we still need to figure out mac stuff i guess.
anything else?
not much! things are going smoothly and i think that's cool. i thought "well i think ppl are gonna like this update" and that turned out to be true so far, which makes us happy :] as always thank you guys for the support! we hope to see you in the ko-fi or the lab soon, and we also hope that the next update will be public release stuff, fingers crossed.
