september devlog (the one-year anniversary special)
hi! the first one of these devlogs happened to be posted in september last year, which means we have been for an entire year reminding you that we're working on veadotube <3 give or take. it was mid september so there's still a couple weeks left but let's not let that stop us!
lots has happened this past year of devlogs! we made an entire engine from scratch just for veado, we ported everything from unity to it, we started the lab and the ko-fi, we redesigned veadotube mini and released version 2.0, we fixed bugs, we continued fixing bugs, we restarted work on the full version, the first half of the full version is already somewhat functional... lots of stuff :]
but let's get to this month's update! we got good and bad news. we'll start with the good ones!
how are things in the full version?
we're still focusing on veadotube live, and we got to finish the basics of the state system! you know, the one we mentioned in the last update but we didn't have much to show? well, now we have:
this lets you have separate state machines to control and reposition your avatar in veadotube live, and this same system will be in use in veadotube editor, so you'll be able to create avatars with your own custom state machines :] we talked in more detail about the state system in the previous devlog so i won't ramble too much about it.
we also added a bunch of new nodes to the node editor -- early access users can now do advanced maths and trigonometry, as well as better ways to convert numerical values into other useful data. this last one is still a wip, we're now focusing on making it easy to convert fuzzy data to states, so that you could e.g. easily change states in an avatar according to the position of your head relative to the webcam.
speaking of camera tracking, we're still on our way to add proper webcam support to all platforms, and then after that we'll be focusing on doing funny neural network shenanigans for face tracking and whatnot :] it's weird to add support to that before the user can actually create avatars that support movement other than the predefined animations in mini, though, so we might look into getting veadotube editor minimally ready first.
in the meanwhile, we did do a very important thing in that field: there are kinect nodes now <3 enjoy this picture of bella and i testing this thing:
all the new features mentioned are already available in the early access! you can get it through the early access ko-fi as always. we're not accepting new lab members right now but we'll be going through the forms again at some point in the future!
and how are things in general?
ah ok the bad news. so right after i made this last build my computer broke </3 it lasted 8 good years until something went out with either the mobo or the cpu, meaning i'm now working with my old ass macbook that i use for making mac builds.
it's... not great! using it for veado development isn't very productive as veado is a pretty heavy project as apparently .NET projects don't scale as well as i expected. i also cannot make builds for windows and linux like this, so veado development is kinda on hold right now?
sooo i guess this is a reminder that we got a ko-fi with early access to veadotube live, and that we always appreciate your donations be it through ko-fi or itch.io <3 i hate to continue e-begging like this but shit's hard y'know
(on a very personal note: i couldn't even get that surgery i mentioned in a past devlog bc i couldn't save enough for it and have already spent what i managed in rent and whatnot </3 it's been a great couple years to all my haters out there)
hopefully soon we should resume work on veado -- if things continue not going well i think we can improvise something. we don't wanna stop working on this project, so we do what we can!
anything else?
hmmm we usually share on social media when we post a new devlog, but this time we can't share this on twitter specifically bc as you may know by now they blocked it here in brazil FLKDSJG so uhh maybe share this on twitter for us? <3 thank u
we'll be doing what we can in the meanwhile, and hopefully next month we'll have better news to share. xo

First time reading devlog of this project I love this app so much and I'm so surprised that is getting even better, I would love to see this app on flathub so is easy to use on Linux
